Create your own

Create your own summer illustration step by step with Talens Art Creation acrylic paint! The cheerful colours in the Caribbean set are perfect for creating those island vibes. Have fun!

What you need

  • Talens Art Creation acrylic paint set Caribbean
  • Talens Art Creation acrylic paper
  • Brushes in various sizes
  • HB pencil
  • Ruler
  • Painting tape
  • Paper towels or tissues
  • Paint palette (such as tear-off palette) or a plate
  • Hair dryer to make it dry faster is optional

Make a 10 x 10 cm square.

Step 1

Using the ruler and HB pencil, make a 10 x 10 cm square with a triangle at the top and bottom. Tape the edges with painter's tape (preferably tape suitable for paper surfaces).

Apply the colours Azo Yellow Medium (269), Quinacridone Pink (366) and Pastel Pink (390) to the top half.

Step 2

For a nice colour transition from yellow to pink, start at the bottom and slowly work your way up by sweeping your brush from left to right. The slower you go, the more control you have. Let this dry thoroughly before moving on to step 3.

Stick another line of tape in the middle of your square for the tightest line possible.

Step 3

Make sure the previous layer is completely dry before you do this, otherwise you may damage the paint.

Blend the colours Mint Green (678) and Phthalo Green Light (673) again from light to dark, so in this case from top to bottom. Let this dry thoroughly again before continuing to step 4.

Carefully remove the straight strip of painter's tape in the middle.

Step 4

Mix a light shade of blue yourself by combining Mint Green (678) with King's Blue (517). Proportionally, you need less dark blue than mint green.

Use this colour to paint a hill and add a small silhouette of a palm tree. Let this dry thoroughly.

Paint a hill.

Step 5

Use the colour King's Blue (517) to paint another hill. Place this hill in front of the light blue hill to create more perspective. Let this dry well.

Carefully remove the painting tape.

Step 6

Paint a sun partly outside the frame using the colour Azo Yellow Medium (269). This colour is semi-transparent and thus needs several coats to be opaque. If you have an opaque white acrylic, you can also use that first to create a base layer for the yellow.

Not that confident in making circles? Use a compass or something round to trace over, such as a roll of tape.

Now it's time to add the final touch:

Step 7

The large palm tree in the front. Paint this tree with the same colour as the front hill: King's Blue (517).

For a playful effect, let some branches with the leaves emerge from the frame, just like the sun.
