ABOUT MARU GODAS

Maru is a visual artist with an academic background in graphic design and illustration who now mainly focuses on painting. She studied Graphic Design in Barcelona (IDEP and La Llotja schools of the arts) and soon created her own studio offering design and illustration services to different types of clients, mostly publishers. Later, she was able to publish her first illustrated books, some aimed at children, but also reproductions of her travel notebooks.

From hardship to happiness: a painter's journey of rediscovery

She found her way into painting some time ago when she realised it was her authentic passion. After a hard time in her life, she saw that the act of painting was one of the things that made her happiest. “When I paint, I travel far and I can stop time. I feel that I am in that exact moment and place.” “My interest in painting continued and I started painting in the streets and giving workshops on urban sketching, almost always on gouache and acrylic painting techniques. I have always loved the shine and possibilities of oil paint, but I had to stop using it due to certain intolerances to turpentine. Now I am able to use oil paint again with Cobra’s solvent-free oil painting techniques.”

Exploring new techniques

“My interest in painting continued and I started painting in the streets and giving workshops on urban sketching, almost always on gouache and acrylic painting techniques. I have always loved the shine and possibilities of oil paint, but I had to stop using it due to certain intolerances to turpentine. Now I am able to use oil paint again with Cobra’s solvent-free oil painting techniques.”

Finding inspiration in nature

Maru is most inspired by free spaces and live scenes. “I like going with the flow of the environment. I love to paint trees and mountain landscapes, such as the ones I see in the Pyrenees, and Mediterranean beaches like those of the Costa Brava or the Delta de l’Ebre.”

Empowering creativity

She tries to capture her personality in her works with colourful, fresh imagery to convey positive emotions. Maru loves vibrant, vivid colours and wants to convey the joy of life. Her work is not totally figurative, sometimes she works on abstraction and synthesis to create new scenarios and to convey her emotions.

I'm inspired by the Impressionists. My favourite master is David Hockney.
