Overview of the steps

Use the printed PDF as a support to draw the grid. Use the HB graphite pencil to do this. You can also use a ruler to make your own grid as shown in the video.

Start sketching the samurai. Again, you can use the PDF as an example to determine shapes and placement. Divide the helmet and other parts into rough shapes and add more and more detail.

Use the Koi Brush Pen to trace over the pencil lines.

The application of multiple layers creates shadow effects and more depth in the drawing.

Cliff Deun (@cliffdeunart) is an illustrator and painter from Amsterdam. Inspired by movies since childhood, he used to pause VHS tapes to sketch characters like Darth Vader and the T-Rex from Jurassic Park. Though he studied advertising, he found his true passion in illustration, adopting a "less is more" approach.
