125 years of Royal Talens

In 1899, Marten Talens embarked on a visionary journey right here in Apeldoorn. In that year he founded the "Dutch Factory for Paints, Lacquers and Inks", laying the foundation for what would become Royal Talens. This year we stand proud, celebrating 125 vibrant years of creativity, innovation, and artistic expression.

Our CEO Ronald Benning: "So let the celebrations start, 125 years of Talens in 2024. It all started with the production of drawing ink and fine watercolour. Today our assortment has over 6.500 articles all dedicated in making your creative life colourful."

The mission of Royal Talens

We want to enable creative expression for everyone. We do this by stimulating and facilitating as many people as possible, regardless of their level of experience, age, or country of origin.

'Royal' Designation

Queen Wilhelmina was a great Talens fan. She used it on a daily basis. In addition to being queen, Wilhelmina was an artist who had a love and passion for her hobby. This made her feel closely connected to Talens.

In 1949 she wanted the world to know this. She made Talens Royal. Because Royal Talens has the same passion artists have. Not to create the most beautiful work, but to produce and develop the best paint and artists’ materials, as it has been for the last 125 years. Such as the well known brands Rembrandt and Van Gogh, but also new innovations such as Cobra.

Thanks to this great Queen we are called Royal Talens.

And to this day we have lived up to the highest of Royal standards, both as manufacturer and employer.
