3D stacking technique

Blob paint is mostly known for its fun 3D effect. Most blob paintings are created by stacking blobs of paint on top of each other in different colours. This technique is super easy, but you do need a bit of patience. The result is a truly unique piece!

Shake the paint before use and add your first layer of blobs directly to a flat surface like a notebook. Experiment with sizing, placement and colour to create a design you like. Let the blobs dry for 24 before adding another layer. You can keep doing this until you're happy with your design.

Dripping technique

For an interesting, melted look, try this cool dripping technique!

Apply horizontal stripes in different colours to a canvas or other flat surface and hold it upright to allow the paint to run down the canvas. You can rock the canvas back and forth slightly for even more effect. Wait until the paint has run down to the bottom of the canvas and lay it down flat once you're happy with the result. Let it dry for 24 hours afterwards and enjoy your new painting!

Plastic technique

Applying blob paint techniques to objects that aren't flat, like this flowerpot, might seem impossible because of dripping, but not with this plastic technique!

Create blobs in different colours to a sheet of plastic (or a plastic container) and let it dry for 24 hours. You can add different colours to a single blob to create a patterned effect. After drying, you can peel the blobs right off the plastic and stick them onto the flowerpot using glue. Using this technique, you can decorate anything with colourful blobs!

Pouring technique

For a colourful marble look, you can try this pouring technique! This technique can be applied on surfaces that aren't flat as well.

Apply several colours together on an object of your choice. Move it around to let the colours flow and create an interesting design! Don't be afraid to get messy with it to create a unique pattern. This idea is great for canvasses as well as small objects such as Happy Stones or notebook covers.

Wet-in-wet technique

If you're too impatient for the 3D stacking technique, maybe this wet-in-wet technique is more your style. This technique does not require waiting for the paint to dry, but still allows you to create a fun pattern.

Add your first layer of blobs to a flat surface of your choice and add little dots, lines and swirls to them using different colours. This way, you can create colourful designs in a much shorter amount of time!

Window wiper technique

This may seem like a weird idea, but using a window wiper on your canvas actually results in a unique-looking painting!

Apply blobs of paint to a canvas but leave the bottom part empty. This allows you some room for the paint. While the paint is still wet, drag your window wiper from the top of the painting to the bottom to drag down the paint. Have fun trying this out!
