Grisaille (underpainting in greyscale)

Now it’s time to focus on grisailles (underpainting in greyscale). In the previous exercises, you have likely experienced the importance of tonal values and the challenge of judging them accurately.

In this video, we will demonstrate how to create a grisaille, and in the next video, we will show you how to add colour on top of this layer.

  • Acrylic paint in lamp black (702) and titanium white (105)
  • Flat brush
  • Acrylic paper
  • Marker
